General & Preventative Dentistry
Education and an early introduction to dental care ensure that visits to the dental surgery are a happy experience for the younger generation. Having healthy teeth for life is achievable for everyone, by having a balance between good diet, good home oral hygiene and regular professional care. More specifically this involves two comprehensive oral examinations a year, which consist of carefully looking around your mouth, x-rays, and specialised tests as appropriate. Usually your teeth will require scaling and cleaning twice a year. Advice is tailored to an individual’s specific needs.
General Dentistry can include simple fillings, Ceramic Fillings, Crowns, Bridges, Porcelain Veneers, Cosmetic Dentistry, Dental Implants and General Preventative Care.
However, certain treatments require specialist care. If this applies, we are happy to refer our patients to our trusted specialists because this enables them to receive the highest quality care possible. This is the most important outcome.
Emergency Care
We endeavour to make time available for dental emergencies. It is often best to make an appointment when you first notice something is wrong rather than waiting till it keeps you up at night, as this will require you to attend after hours and this can be very costly. Traumatic injuries are often best handled quickly as there may be treatment we can do to prevent the need for more extensive treatment if left for too long.
Crown & Bridge
Porcelain or Gold crowns are used when too much tooth structure has been lost and the tooth itself needs reinforcement (protection) to restore form, function and appearance. A bridge is several crowns joined together to replace a missing tooth where the teeth adjacent to the space would benefit by the protection of crowns.
Root Canal Therapy
The aim of endodontic treatment is to remove all the infected material from the pulp chamber and root canal system and fill the root canal system with an inert filling material. Effectively this creates a clean wound at the end of the roots where the blood supply in the bone around the tooth can effect healing. This is a simple concept but in reality can be difficult and challenging. Even so endodontics has a success rate of about 95%. more information

Dentures
Dentures are an easy way of replacing missing teeth, and are a lot more affordable than implant or bridge work. However they are removable, meaning that they are not as comfortable as a fixed prosthesis. We are able to construct dentures for single tooth replacement, partial tooth loss or replacement of all teeth. Dentures are constructed during a few visits to our practice where we take impressions of the mouth and gradually construct a denture to suit every patient’s individual needs.
Implants
Where a tooth has been lost (usually through sporting injuries these days) and the adjacent teeth are intact the method of choice to replace the tooth is an osseo-integrated implant. This procedure is now routine and is considered a long term predictable treatment option.

Porcelain Veneers
Minor irregularities, poorly formed teeth (peg laterals) heavily filled front teeth, worn down front teeth, chipped front teeth can all be restored back to proper form function and also most important appearance. This is often referred to as cosmetic dentistry but all dentistry is both cosmetic and functional in nature.
Tooth Whitening
Tooth whitening has become very popular and can be achieved in a number of ways, ranging from home kits available in supermarkets to professionally provided custom trays with professional strength bleaching material with wide ranging results. We recommend using a take-home kit with trays made specifically for your mouth. Individual results do vary and maintenance usually needs to be repeated on an annual basis to maintain optimal results. Bleaching toothpastes do help maintain a whiter looking smile but results are minimal.
Digital X-Rays
Using modern technology we are able to scan your x-rays onto the computers allowing us to diagnose more thoroughly and show you on the computer screen what we see. It takes only a matter of seconds and can be stored at the same superb quality forever.
Nitrous Sedation
Nitrous sedation uses a combination of oxygen and nitrous gas to produce a more relaxed state. It works very rapidly and can have relaxing and pain-killing effects. The depth of sedation can easily be altered and only lasts as long as the gas is being given. There are no lasting effects and you can safely drive home within minutes. For certain procedures it may be possible to use nitrous instead of local anaesthesia.
